Recommendation: Grilled Atlantic Swordfish
The Appetizer
The Choro Silver Medal winning #2 restaurant brings an air of American old money to the dining experience. I recommend sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender if its not too busy. What really stands out here is my favorite word, Intentionality. This is everything to both me and evidently the chefs at Abe & Louie’s. Their exceptional menu options paired with next level ingredients shines brighter than the bat signal, but instead its calling you.
The Main Course
When I visited: August, 2023 while visiting Boston for food week aka Dine Out Boston.
What I ordered: Pan-roasted bluefish with eggplant caponata and pesto, with a starter salad and vanilla Crème brûlée
Why I recommend: Unparalleled intentionality. This is what I crave about high end restaurants, Each menu item is meticulously crafted and my meal was no different. Kicking off my experience, I was greeted with a fresh basket of rolls. Once again, keeping the theme of intentionality in mind, these were assorted with the classic dinner variety as well as cranberry and others. These were then accompanied by honey sea salt butter. Far and away the greatest complimentary starter I’ve had to date.
I was then pleasantly surprised by the starter salad. Mixed greens adorned with bright, sweet, multicolor cherry tomatoes splayed about like rays of light from the sun, and a beautiful balsamic dressing. Glorious. These flavors synergized incredibly well for such a simple salad. Based on the experience of the bread and salad I expected nothing but greatness from the entree.
The main course arrived with the blue fish seated on eggplant caponata with a precise measure of basil pesto decorating the plate. Each bite informed me about how delicious food could truly be. I found perfectly crispy skin on the flaky, mild, and sweet bluefish. Then taking a bite of caponata with a bit of fish and a dab of pesto unlocked the poorly hidden magic of this dish, intention. It was more than just flavors combining well, so did the colors, textures, and portions. These three were clearly a match made in heaven.
Closing out the show was a Crème brûlée. If you haven’t guessed by now, this too exceeded expectation. The golden shine of the caramel coating sealing off the custard beneath was intensely inviting. Breaking through the caramel crust revealed a light and creamy custard. The Crème in this brûlée struck a delicate balance of sweet and savory. Truly phenomenal.
From plating and portions, to ingredients and imagination, it’s hard to top Abe & Louie’s

If you’ve talked to me about my favorite restaurants i’ve surely discussed this one with you. It’s likely I’ve also told you my plan to fly out to Boston JUST for dinner at Abe & Louie’s. If going that far out of my way doesn’t tell you how I feel about this restaurant… you might as well just find a different site to visit.
